Accidents Leading To Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Claims
hile there is a necessary distinction between different levels of brain injury, the use of the word “mild” can be misleading. All head injuries should be taken seriously as they can result in drastic personality changes and long-term cognitive impairment.
As with many neurological disorders, a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) diagnosis can vary widely from one medical professional to another. Many insurance companies and defense lawyers might use this disparity to strengthen their own case. At Cross Border Law, we will aggressively advocate for our clients’ fair treatment. We understand the severity of brain injuries, and even though some symptoms might appear mild at first, an MTBI can lead to lifelong impairment. Whether in British Columbia or Washington State, call a skilled lawyer.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF AN MTBI?
Many people refer to MTBIs as concussions, but that is not always the case. Each case of MTBI is unique, and it is difficult to draw concrete comparisons. Head trauma can lead to numerous symptoms, including:
- Memory loss
- Loss of ability to concentrate
- Loss of balance
- Loss of perceptive acuity (including blurred vision and sense of smell)
Part of the challenge of accurately diagnosing a brain injury is that the symptoms are not always readily apparent. Closed head injuries will often require neurological testing to identify an issue as structural tests (MRI, CAT scan, etc.) will not highlight a functional problem. If you were injured or you have noticed a personality change in a loved one following a motor vehicle accident, call or email the Vancouver or Seattle law offices of Cross Border Law.
